Pursuant to Section 171(1) of the Act, a member entitled to vote at a meeting of members may vote by proxy by appointing in writing a proxy holder to act at the meeting in the manner and to the extent authorized by the proxy and with the authority conferred by it, subject to the following requirements: A proxy is valid only at the meeting in respect of which it is given or at a continuation of that meeting after an adjournment.

To minimize confusion at the virtual meeting, we ask that you designate the secretary of SGGEE as your proxy. If you want to appoint the secretary, click YES in this section and skip to the end. Click Continue to submit.

If you prefer to vote yourself, click NO in this section and mark your votes in the next section.

I authorize the SECRETARY of the Board of Directors of the Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe to vote on my behalf on all matters that will come before the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the membership to be held virtually on Sept. 24, 2022. Members will be electing TWO directors to join the board for a three-year term. We have a wonderful slate of candidates for the board and thank them all for their willingness to serve!

SGGEE will need to appoint a treasurer when the new board takes office. The first two candidates listed below both meet the requirement of living in Canada. And both have experience with financial matters. Please select one to fill an open director slot.
Keith Dargatz — Canada
I am a 67-year-old retired school teacher and administrator living in Alberta, Canada. I have a Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of Oregon and have 17.5 years’ experience as a School Vice-Principal and Principal. As an administrator in K-9 schools in a province that used a school-based budgeting system, I was responsible for developing budgets that matched diverse needs with available resources, and then monitored the use of those budgets by my clerical staff. I also have 10 years’ experience as a bookkeeper in the private sector (market gardening and farmers’ market sales). I also have multiple years of experience as a church board member, including chairing and as treasurer. My interest in SGGEE is based on my personal interest in researching my family history, and have found SGGEE to be especially valuable for its journal and its extensive maps. I have already signed up to help Gary Warner with databases.
Laurel Glanfield — Canada
Laurel’s interest in genealogy has been lifelong. In the last ten years, she started visiting
ancestral locations (and local records) across the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and Poland.
The records of the SGGEE Lublin database have been really helpful in her research of her
father’s family. He was born in Malinowka, emigrating to Canada in 1927 with his parents and
brothers, leaving most family members behind.

Laurel is a professional accountant, consultant, and CFO of a mobile gaming company. Her
hobbies include genealogy, rowing, cycling, and travelling. She is married, with three grown
children and eight grandchildren under the age of 10.

She looks forward to the opportunity to join the SGGEE board, learning more and helping at the
board level, and using her organizational, business and financial skills within the organization, as
needed.
Please vote for ONE candidate to join the board

SGGEE also values geographical diversity among the directors, the majority of which presently are Canadian residents. Please vote for one from among the three other candidates to fill the second open director position.
Angela Fiebelkorn — Canada
Angela Fiebelkorn has been working on her family tree since 1972 when, as a teenager, she received a Roots - Family Tree book for Christmas. Although her working life as a Manager in the healthcare field took much of her time over the years, she did manage to continue with genealogy and involvement in the East European Genealogy Society, the Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe, and the Manitoba Genealogy Society, Inc. In her early retirement, she now spends time pursuing those genealogy "brick walls" we all have.
Susanne Skabelund — United States
I became interested in family history research when I was in my late teens - and have been engaged in it for over 40 years now. My mother was born in East Prussia near Koenigsburg and her story has taken me to SGGEE. My ancestors on her side came to Galicia, then to Volhynia, then Bromberg area. I spend time researching family history most days and owe lots of my success in that regard to SGGEE and the information I have learned and found through the organization. I've helped the organization a little by indexing some records in Lutzk area. My interest in serving on the board is basically as a way to give back. If you can use the help, I'm glad to contribute!
Gregory Swanson — United States
I am a retired flight surgeon and mostly retired oncologist and Professor at Texas A&M college of Medicine and UT Health Science Center San Antonio. My mother was born to German immigrants outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba. My grandparents and all their family came from west of Lodz and for a long time; I found that the SGGEE was the only organization actively engaged in discovering their records. Much of what I have on my German ancestry is from the SGGEE and I readily recognize the value of the organization. I lived in Germany two years as a missionary, so the language does not scare me, but I will admit to my current lack of proficiency. I have been sporadically doing genealogy for 30+ years (from the microfilm days). I am currently extracting newspapers from my father’s home town. I am committed to genealogy and I love my German territory ancestry. I look forward to helping the SGGEE fulfill its mission.
