RYLA - Rotary District 5150 District Grant Application for Rotary Year 2025-2026

Step 1 of 2: Submit

Thank you for the good work your Club is about to initiate by applying for the use of District Designated Funds (DDF) to fund RYLA Scholarships! Applications for District Grants must be received by June 1, 2025. If you have questions about this application, please contact District Grants Coordinator Joe Teresi at districtgrants5150@gmail.com or 650-455-4887.

Briefly describe the project and what the project will do.

Grant will be used to support the 2026 RYLA Camp to be held July 27 - 31, 2026 at Redwood Glen Camp & Conference Center. The Camp features learning situations that aid students in developing self-knowledge and esteem, sound values, teamwork, and commitments to Service Above Self leadership. Cost per student is $800. Funds will be expended prior to June 30, 2026.
District Grants require active involvement of Rotarians to:
Assess community needs
Develop a project plan
Establish a committee of 2+ Rotarians to oversee expenditure of funds and implementation of the project
Promote the project in local media
Submit required reports on time
Describe active participation by Rotarians (non-financial). Provide at least (2) examples of active participation.

A 16-member, District-wide Rotary Planning Team plans, manages, and leads all aspects of RYLA. Campers are divided into small teams of 10-12, and each team has two adult facilitators. There are 34 Rotarian facilitators.
Who is the relevant community and how will the project improve their lives?

RYLA participants from high schools in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties experience transformational increases in their self-esteem, confidence, and capacity as leaders and team players.
What are the expected long-term impacts?

With the goal of creating Service Above Self leaders, the ultimate long-term impact hoped for is that we are educating youth to be more civic-minded and engaged, and have the skills to assume leadership roles in their communities and civil-society.
Is this a Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) Scholarship Project?
Will the project address any of Rotary International's Seven Areas of Focus (recommended, but not required)? If Yes, which Area(s)?
How will the project meet the goals of that Area(s) of Focus?

RYLA is a transformative educational experience supporting each individual's personal growth and the developmental tasks to transition successfully from youth to adulthood. Essentially, this project helps build the leadership skills necessary to address all of Rotary Internationals Areas of Focus, and any other areas of passion that RYLA participants have short and long term.
Describe what outreach and publicity methods you will use to ensure that the general public will know that this is a Rotary-sponsored project. Provide examples.

Emails to staff at public and private schools in San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo counties to promote RYLA to high school students. Liaison with Interact clubs and advisors in District 5150 to promote RYLA to high school students. The distribution of RYLA posters and flyers to schools, libraries and community centers to promote RYLA to high school students. Zoom info sessions for prospective students and facilitators.
Is a cooperating organization involved?
