Lawn & Weed Control Service Guidelines

Insect & Disease Control- We provide treatments for lawn-damaging insects such as chinch bugs, armyworms, sod webworms, mole crickets, and grubs. We also treat certain lawn diseases, including brown patch fungus, gray leaf spot, and dollar spot.
Weed Control
  • Treatments include broadleaf weeds only.
  • Grassy weeds generally have no effective chemical control. Certain species, such as wild Bermuda, cannot be selectively treated.
  • Crabgrass treatment is limited and typically requires several years of consistent service.
  • Herbicide results may take 4–6 weeks to become fully visible, and reapplication depends on the condition of your turf.
  • Over-application of herbicides can damage your lawn and should be avoided.
Customer Responsibilities
  • Watering & mowing: Proper irrigation and mowing frequency are critical to the success of your lawn care program.
  • No store-bought chemicals: Do not apply additional products on your own, as they may harm your turf. If this occurs, Total Spraying is not responsible for sod replacement.
  • Communication: Contact us immediately at the first sign of damage. Reading and following our monthly email recommendations will greatly support your lawn’s progress.
Weed Management Expectations
  • As weeds die, bare spots may appear. Small areas usually fill in naturally; large areas may require resodding.
  • Weeds germinate every 4–5 weeks, so monthly treatments are most effective.
  • No lawn will ever be 100% weed-free. Our goal is: 80–90% control in St. Augustine turf
  • Up to 40% control in Bahia turf (pre-emergents cannot be used on Bahia).
  • Winter treatments are essential. Skipping them will result in heavier weed pressure in spring and summer. Weed control uptake is also slower in cooler months.
  • The first and best defense against weeds is healthy, dense turf that naturally shades the soil and prevents germination.
Seasonal Considerations
  • Dormancy (cooler months): Lawns naturally go dormant in winter, which protects against fungus and freezes. Fertilization begins in spring as lawns green up. Lawns started in fall/winter may not show visible improvements until spring.
  • Drought (late spring/summer): During hot, dry periods (typically May–July), water 3x per week, 30–45 minutes per zone. Irrigation must be working properly to prevent stress. Drought-stressed lawns are more susceptible to weeds and chinch bugs, and herbicides cannot be applied under drought stress.
  • Improvement timeline:
  • Lawns require at least 1 year of consistent treatments for noticeable results.
  • Lawns in poor condition may need 2 years or more to turn around.
  • Lawn appearance may fluctuate week to week depending on temperature, mowing, and watering.
  • Weekly mowing at the highest setting during the growing season is recommended.

Important Note: Please review our monthly emails and your service work orders after each visit for tailored recommendations.
